Abstract

This article analyzes the application of constructivist theories in the teaching of educational content to students in contemporary early childhood education. It starts from the idea that, in early childhood, learning cannot be reduced to the simple reception of information, but rather involves active processes of constructing meaning through play, exploration, social interaction, and pedagogical mediation. Within this framework, the contributions of Piaget, Vygotsky, Bruner, and Ausubel are considered, as well as their projection in current approaches such as Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Waldorf. The central objective is to examine how constructivist theories guide the selection, organization, and teaching of content in early childhood education, and how they contribute to the quality of children's learning experiences in the classroom. Methodologically, a qualitative documentary study was developed, based on the review and critical analysis of academic literature in Spanish and English related to constructivism, early childhood education, and contemporary pedagogy. The sources were organized into theoretical categories, and their contributions were interpreted in relation to the problem posed. Among the main results, the predominance of the constructivist approach in current curricular guidelines was identified, along with the transformation of the teacher's role towards a more active and reflective mediation, the centrality of the prepared environment and materials, and the importance of pedagogical interactions to promote meaningful learning. It is concluded that constructivist theories offer a solid framework for teaching content in early childhood education, provided they translate into flexible planning, environments rich in experiences, and teaching practices consistent with the conception of the child as an active subject of their own learning.
